Apple River, Ill; born in Lincolnshire, England, Aug. 14, 1831; came to America in 1833, and directly to Wisconsin; bought 80 acres in 1857; then 135 and 15 acres of timber in Illinois and 215 in Wisconsin and made the improvements. His wife, Ruth REDFEARN, born in Ohio,
Hancock Co., September, 1836. He married in 1855; they have had twelve children, ten living; Francis, born Nov. 15, 1855, died April 3, 1874; Joseph H., born Oct. 7, 1857, now in Nebraska; Gladwin, born April 7, 1860, now in Nebraska; Mary Eveline, born Jan. 14, 1862, died May 3, 1863; Annie R., born

RUTH REDFEARN SMITH

Ruth Redfearn was born 24 September, 1836 in Hancock Co, Ohio and she came with her parents overland in an immigrant wagon to Lafayette Co, Wisconsin at the age of five years. She was married to Henry Smith in 1854 and soon after they settled on a farm in Gratiot Twp, Lafayette Co, Wisconsin. Here she resided until about seven years ago when she moved to Warren, Illinois, where she resided until her death 10 March, 1915. She became a member of the Methodist church at the age of twelve. Three sisters are left to mourn her departure: Mary Barnes, Warren, Illinois; Elizabeth Long, Mason City, Iowa; Harriet Watson, Sidney, Australia.

Twelve children were born to this union: Francis H., and Anna R. Nattress, Mary E. and George E. passed to the great beyond. Those living are: Joseph H. and James E. of Fort Collins, Colorado; Gladwin and Charles E., Geddes, South Dakota; Elizabeth E., Des Moines, Iowa; Albert N., Waterloo, Iowa; William H., Warren, Illinois; and Manley A., Gratiot, Wisconsin. Internment was made at West Ella Cemetery at Apple River.
